Branding

Design Crowd

I found a free lancing website called design crowd that people put up projects with a budget, while it inst an English based company, I feel like getting first hand experience with working with clients would be hugely beneficial for my practice. With Easter coming up, I can really use that time to get some paid briefs under my belt to help me progress my skills.

Night out

Headrow house

Had a quick night out to the cool and trendy headrow house with a bunch of friends and flat mates for some drinks and ended up going to the live bands playing on the show floor. we had such a good time, the place looked great with the designs that Alphabet had created, in which we had some quick photos with, to the home brewed beer that they serve.

Artist

Aaron Draplin

Pennys last lecture, she showed us a presentation as a final farewell sorta thing that focused on what the world of graphic design is like. Within the presentation, she talked a little about DDC studios (Draplin design co.) and showed us a short video from Aaron Draplin. The video really spoke to me as he talked about how important and fun idea generation is. He spoke about his company and how he loves working for him self, but mainly, he spoke about how he enjoys using // filling up sketchbooks (like me). With that he showed his custom sketchbooks he calls Field Notes that he sells on his shop and how he uses them for every day life for things that inspire him.

Looking into him, I think he's a great sort of role model to look to as he successfully In what he dose and enjoys doing it. I feel like my self branding would benefit by taking a page out of his book and create my own pocket sketchbooks that I can keep on my self / use for individual projects. I especially like the simple design they have and the fact that there easily reproduced

launch

Nest

At the start of the year, Josiah came in to our class to talk about the magazines run and told us about the upcoming launch for the new issue focused around light.
The Nest magazines launch event was a bit of the way out of the town centre but it was a very interesting launch as it did real well to showcase the latest issue work that are within the magazine such as the foil blanket projection and the paper bird, It gives the magazine the chance to allow these pieces to be viewed at first hand by its readers. The venue it's self worked really well to accommodate the tone of voice and style of the publication.

Conn can's BeHance is set up. I've started to upload past work and will move on to posting work from the course. My aims for this is to create a digital portfolio of work that can be accessed by anyone and will be able to send links to it if and when people ask to see it.

Instagram

Conn can's intagram is now up and running, I've started to upload my personal work and will move on to posting work from the course. My aims for this is to create a presence on the social media platform and have a place i can store work and get people viewing it. As this is my first time using the platform, as sad as it is, getting people to like and follow you gives you a real nice feeling to it.

Workshop

Bookbinding

Bookbinding is a technique that I've been looking forward to learning out how to properly do. Its such a fun process that really rewards you when you hold your finished book in your hands. Its a process you have to be careful to make sure the book is perfect to make it look pretty slick and its something I really enjoy. We where shown three diffrent techniques: Saddle stitch bind, Japanese bind and concertina book.

Branding

Idea development

Sketchbook pages on what I want from my brand, started of with the name, while jotting down some names in both my little sketchbook and on my little brothers colouring book from a restaurant we went to. After looking at them, my favorite one has to be the Conn-can one as its cheesy, fun and works quite well for what I want. The concept behind it is, if i wanted to make a website down the line or just use it on our social, is to have it as "Conn Can work in groups" or "Conn Can use After Effects".

For the logo, I wanted to link it to the mind-maps that fill up all of my sketchbooks and i feel like these parabolic logos work really well for me as they link to my personality and can be shrunk and blown up without a hitch
